Oh hooray! Have you all been anxiously awaiting to hear how super fun my awesome weekend was? Allow me to tell you (meaning, bitch bitch bitch).
Friday night was legitimately fun. A bunch of us went out the moment our Friday colloquium finished, I spent the night chilling with Awkward Jesus, and I wandered home around 2 am.
Saturday, I woke up and went to work. I took an hour break to eat burritos on the quad with a silly friend, and went back to work. I left work, went grocery shopping, did laundry, kept working, and went to bed.
Sunday, I woke up at 6:30 am. My secondary adviser (read: test adviser if current adviser doesn't work out) and I had decided to scan subjects from 8 am until 9 pm. Now you might think "oh gee, scanning subjects, that sounds fun!" NO! Shut your dirty whore mouth!
Not only is secondary adviser kinda scary (she will smile to your face but will never forget any and every mistake you made) but I was learning (a) how to use the fMRI scanner, (b) how to collect psychophysical data from subjects, (c) how to run this particular study, (d) how my adviser wants everything specifically done. OMG. There is constantly something to be done and almost no down time. You also can't leave the scanner unless you happen to finish early and the next subject is not early, so you can't really get water or pee. Which is just another factor that makes sitting in a windowless basement in a high pressure situation demanding extreme vigilance entirely impossible.
On the plus side, the day went really well. We didn't have any disasters, I proved myself essentially competent, and I think a little bonding might have even happened (primarily over crossword puzzles and Fmylife.com).
So, I got home at 9 pm, answered emails from my students, scheduled more subjects to be run this week, and now I am taking a 15 minute break before I go read 60 pages on neuroanatomy.
......maybe I get to relax once this term is over - in mid-June?
